Scientists say they have identified a root cause of lupus — one that could pave the way for new treatments

Exciting Breakthrough in Lupus Research!

Scientists at Northwestern Medicine and Brigham and Women’s Hospital have potentially uncovered a root cause of lupus, Dr. Deepak Rao states, “This could explain the vast majority of lupus cases.” This discovery could pave the way for new, targeted treatments!

Key Findings Include:
(1) Imbalance in T-cell types in lupus patients
(2) Excess type I interferon linked to disease progression
(3) New treatment possibilities, including interferon-blocking drugs

While this research brings hope, experts caution it’s too early to claim a singular cause for all lupus cases.
