LIVING WITH LUPUS | Elizabeth L.

Overcoming My 21 Year Battle With Lupus

Ever since I was diagnosed with lupus at the age of five, my life has been a constant battle against fatigue, pain, and many other symptoms. Despite being treated and medicated, I never felt vibrant and alive. Over the years, I struggled with severe symptoms like arthritis, vasculitis, brain fog, and sensitivity to light. I felt like my body was constantly working against me, leaving me exhausted and unfulfilled.

As I grew older, I tried various approaches to alleviate my symptoms. I experimented with different diets, such as Paleo and gluten-free, and attempted to adopt a healthier lifestyle. However, these efforts provided only temporary relief, and I still found myself overwhelmed by my health issues. No matter what I tried, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that there was more to life than just managing my symptoms.

During the pandemic, my symptoms worsened, and I found myself struggling with severe ringing in my ears and debilitating dizziness. It was a wake-up call. I realized that I couldn’t continue living this way, constantly battling against my own body. I knew deep down that there had to be a better way to live, but I didn’t know where to start.

Despite the challenges I faced, I refused to give up hope. I stumbled into the world of functional medicine, seeking alternative solutions to manage my condition. Through countless hours of research and self-reflection, I underwent a profound transformation. This discovery sparked a newfound determination within me to take control of my health. I began to educate myself obsessively, devouring every piece of information I could find about alternative treatments and lifestyle changes.

I learned to listen to my body’s signals, to nurture it with the care and attention it deserved. I connected with others who shared similar struggles, finding solace in their understanding and support. Most importantly, I realized that the solution wasn’t just about treating my physical symptoms—it was about reclaiming my sense of self, my vitality, and my dreams.

Today, I am living proof that it’s possible to thrive despite the challenges of lupus. I wake up each day feeling energized, resilient, and confident in my body’s abilities. The chronic pain and fatigue that once held me back are now distant memories. My life is no longer defined by limitations; instead, I am empowered to live the most fulfilling, radiant and magical life I always dreamed of.

I am no longer just surviving, I am thriving.
