Let’s Talk Lupus: A Pathway to Progress

Bringing the latest insights from the LUPUS 2025 Congress directly to Canadians and advancing the conversation on global lupus research and innovation.

“During Lupus 2025, I had the privilege and honour of speaking with leading lupus specialists from around the world. A clear and inspiring theme emerged — one of hope and a united commitment to improving treatment and outcomes for those living with lupus.”

— Leanne Mielczarek, CEO, Lupus Canada

Lupus impacts more than 1 in 1,000 Canadians and an estimated 5 million people worldwide. It is a complex autoimmune disease with no known cure, impacting every aspect of life, including physical, emotional, and social.

Despite medical progress, too many Canadians face delayed diagnosis, inconsistent access to care, and limited treatment options. For many, living with lupus means navigating uncertainty every single day.

A movement to advance lupus care

Let’s Talk Lupus: A Pathway to Progress brings together leading lupus researchers, experts, and advocates from across the globe to share breakthroughs in global lupus research, inspire hope, and connect international progress to the realities of living with lupus in Canada.

Through this campaign, Lupus Canada is amplifying global voices to spotlight the urgent need for:

  • Faster diagnosis and equitable access to treatments

  • Mental health and patient-centred care

  • Research investment and clinical innovation

  • Policies that recognize lupus as a critical national health priority

Global collaboration driving national impact

This initiative is built around four key strengths:

1. Progress: Innovation transforming lupus care worldwide
From clinical trials to emerging therapies, global lupus research momentum is accelerating. Lupus Canada is ensuring Canadians are part of this future.

2. Partnership: Experts and patients united for better care
This campaign bridges global expertise and lived experience — because meaningful change happens when researchers, patients, and advocates work together.

3. Perspective: Connecting the world to Canada’s lupus community
By linking diverse international insights, we strengthen our national advocacy and amplify Canadian patient voices on the global stage.

4. Purpose: Hope, awareness, and lasting change
Every voice and every story shared in this series brings us closer to a world with equitable, innovative, and compassionate lupus care.

An invitation to act

This campaign is more than a series — it’s a call to action.
Together, we can turn global innovation into national progress.

We invite:

  • People living with lupus and their caregivers — to share your experiences and help guide the future of care.

  • Healthcare professionals and researchers — to join the conversation and advance collaboration across borders.

  • Policymakers and partners in health innovation — to prioritize equitable access and invest in research that changes lives.

  • Donors and advocates — to amplify these voices and help drive real, lasting change.

Meet the Experts Behind the Movement

Across the world, leading lupus specialists are redefining how we understand and treat lupus. Each expert brings a unique perspective, from advancing clinical research to advocating for equitable access and patient-centred care.

Lupus Canada thanks all the experts who shared their time, knowledge, and perspectives during LUPUS 2025.
Their dedication to advancing global lupus research, improving patient care, and fostering collaboration across borders continues to inspire hope for a brighter future for all those affected by lupus.

The urgency is real

  • Lupus is one of Canada’s most misunderstood chronic diseases.
  • It disproportionately affects women of childbearing age, Black, Indigenous, Asian, and Hispanic communities.
  • Despite major advances in lupus research worldwide, Canadians continue to experience gaps in access to the latest therapies.
  • Many patients struggle for years to receive a diagnosis or specialist referral.

Together, we can transform the future of lupus care by connecting global innovation to national impact.
