Walk a Block for Lupus – New date, May 10, 2008
Put your walking shoes on and join others as we walk together to conquer lupus
Lupus Canada is approaching its 7th annual Walk a Block for Lupus event and we want you, your family and friends to join together to make this another successful year. Through the work of dedicated volunteers and walkers, our October 2007 walk was a huge success. Over 94 teams walked throughout Canada and raised more than $345,000.00 in funds to help support the work of Lupus Canada and its member organizations. Walk a Block for Lupus has been held the past six years in October as October is Lupus Awareness Month in Canada. Starting in 2008, this event will take place in May to celebrate May 10th as World Lupus Day. May 10, 2008, will be the 5th annual World Lupus Day and walks and other events will take place worldwide to raise awareness of lupus and funds to help support services for people living with lupus.
Lupus impacts over 50,000 Canadians and over 5 million people worldwide, with the majority being young women in their childbearing years. More often, younger and older people are being diagnosed with lupus- “Lupus truly is the Disease of a Thousand Faces”.
How can you help? It is fun and easy. You can:
- Become a Team Leader and lead your team of walkers at one of our walk locations, or start your own walk in your community
- Support a walker and help them reach their fundraising goal
- Be a sponsor for a Walk – would your company like to sponsor a walk or perhaps offer a corporate matching program?
- Volunteer with the planning of a Walk or join to help the day of the Walk with registration, set-up, walk route coordinator, the list goes on and on….
Walk a Block for Lupus is Lupus Canada’s most important annual fundraising and public awareness event and your help is so much appreciated.
