Inaugural E-newsletter Featuring
World Lupus Day
May 10, 2007
– World Lupus Day
On May 10th, Lupus Canada, our member
organizations and people living with lupus across Canada will join lupus
groups around the world to mark the fourth annual World Lupus Day and
remember the five million people worldwide living with
lupus.
Over 50,000 people in Canada live with lupus, and
thousands of family and friends are affected by lupus. It is vitally
important that we mark May 10th . The goals of World Lupus Day are to
increase awareness of lupus and raise funds that support services for
those living with lupus as well as support lupus research.
To
learn more about World Lupus Day, and how you can participate, visit
the Lupus Canada website. We have many tools and resources to help you
increase lupus awareness.

PROFILE:
Jennifer Dawson from Caledon, Ontario participates in World Lupus
Day
In May 2006, Jennifer heard
about World Lupus Day for the first time. As a person with lupus, she
wanted to increase awareness about lupus in her community. Jennifer
marked May 10th 2006 by meeting neighbours and telling them about World
Lupus Day and shared her experience of living with lupus. She raised
awareness about lupus within her community, and successfully raised
over $300.00 to support the work of Lupus Canada.
On May 10th,
2007, Jennifer will be hosting an awareness booth at the local IGA in
Caledon East and she will have lupus information available. Jennifer
will be selling lupus wrist bands and angel pins and, once again, be
working to increase awareness about lupus. This year she will be
especially proud to have the proclamations of support from local
politicians and dignitaries.

Walk a block
for lupus – October 21, 2007
October is only five months away and that means Lupus
Canada’s national fundraising event, Walk A Block for Lupus, is
fast approaching.
Held in October, during Lupus Awareness
month, this event is a great opportunity for people with lupus, their
families and friends to come together and walk while raising awareness
and money in support of people in Canada living with lupus.
Last year, over $140,000 was raised by participants, their
supporters and sponsors. The 2007 goal is to raise $300,000.
You can help us reach our goal and make a difference in your
community! Volunteer to become a Walk A Block for Lupus Event
Coordinator, a team leader or lend your support to a
